Sarah Gail Hanshaw
Gail was an active community servant. She served as secretary on the executive committee for the Sesquicentennial Celebration; Porter Township Christmas lighting committee; and a member of the Wheelersburg Women’s Civic Club. Whether it was serving as the dispatcher for the Porter Township Fire Department; coordinating
CCD program at Saint Peter’s Church; or raising funds for Church projects, Gail was loved and respected by those with whom she came in contact.
She is especially remembered for her generous scholarship endowment funds established for Wheelersburg High School graduates. Three scholarships under the names of Duncan Harrison, Sally Harrison, and Gail Harrison are awarded each year. To date a total of $73,542 dollars derived from interest earned from the principal amount has been awarded to qualifying seniors.
This is a truly remarkable gesture made by Gail that will always keep the Harrison name in the education field.
Gail passed away May 10,1996. She served our community with great passion so as to bring honor to herself, her family and our school. Her life serves as an example for all graduates of Wheelersburg past and future to emulate.
