WSAFF Awards $7500 in Grants to Burg Teachers

The Wheelersburg Schools Alumni & Friends Foundation is thrilled to announce the awarding of grants totaling $7,500 to teachers in the Wheelersburg Local School District. These grants will fund innovative projects designed to enhance educational experiences, foster creativity, and support student achievement across the district.

The Wheelersburg Schools Alumni & Friends Foundation’s mission is to promote, enhance, and supplement educational programs for the benefit of students and faculty within the Wheelersburg Local School District. This year’s grant recipients exemplify these goals through their exceptional proposals:

  • Shelby Gilliland, Wheelersburg Middle School: Awarded $210 for the proposal “Builders of Care,” to support the WMS Builders Club in its mission to promote leadership, citizenship, and service by empowering students to meet a real and ongoing need within the school community.
  • Shelby Gilliland, Wheelersburg Middle School: Awarded $818 for the proposal “Genetics Lab,” which will provide students with a dynamic hands-on experience. This tool will allow students to visualize and experiment with genetics concepts thus making them more concrete.
  • Alyssa Williams, Wheelersburg Elementary School: Awarded $763 for the proposal “High Noon Library,” will impact struggling readers by providing structured, decodable content and engaging books specifically designed to accelerate reading skills..
  • Heather Mullins, Wheelersburg Middle School: Awarded $2,000 for the proposal “WMS Tech Fair and Family STEM Night,” a project that expands access to technology and provides hands-on STEM Night activities and student materials that encourages creative expression and prepares students for a technology rich future.
  • Sandy Belford, Wheelersburg High School: Awarded $3,700 for the proposal “Laser Engraver”, to expand hands-on learning through CAD design, precision fabrication, safety protocols and entrepreneurship.  This project will build student skills in practical workforce readiness, technology and cross-curricular projects.
