About Mrs. Harner

Hello, I'm Emily Harner. This is my 12th year of teaching, my 10th at Wheelersburg. I am a graduate of Wright State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Music Education.  I currently working on my Master's of Education in Classroom Technology from Bowling Green State University.
Music plays an integral part of my life and I want to bring the joy of music to every student I encounter. I believe in shaping students to be well-rounded people and music can do that in powerful ways. Everyone has an instrument---be it voice, piano, trumpet, (even clapping your hands!)---and my goal is to bring out each student's potential as a musician and person.
I am married to my wonderful husband, Allen, and we have two beautiful girls--Olivia (7) and Ellie (5). We are members of Bloom Free Will Baptist Church where my husband is the associate pastor and music director. I have a music ministry with the youth choir and handbell choir.
"Let music never die in me, forever let my spirit sing. Let all our voices join as one to praise the Giver of the song." --The Awakening, by Joseph Martin

Music with Mrs. Harner

I am the music director for grades 7-12. Here's what you can expect in my classes this year:
  • Middle School: (Grades 7-8) classes meet once a week;  each class period will focus on the essentials of music through performance. Instruments including the voice, piano, guitar, chimes, and drums will be explored. We will also survey the worlds of music history and musical theater.
  • 8th Grade Choir: This is the first year we are offering a choir option to 8th grade students. They signed up for the class last spring or at the beginning of this academic year. Students get to experience singing and performing in a group setting, while learning the basics of choral music and music reading.
  • HS Mixed Chorus: is a non-auditioned beginning choral group that rehearses daily. Students will learn fundamental choral techniques, sight-singing, ear training, music reading, and proper vocal technique.
  • WHS Vocal Point: is an auditioned, advance choral group and is the primary performance ensemble at Wheelersburg. Many outside of school performances are required. Advanced choral repertoire, sight-reading, and choral training are central in daily rehearsals.
