Welcome to English 9 and to high school! This is an exciting year of new beginnings as you embark on  your high school career. This year we will study all the literary genres, reading such classics as Animal Farm, Romeo and Juliet, and To Kill a Mockingbird.  We will also focus on strengthening your skills in all the modes of writing: descriptive, narrative, expository, and persuasive. I am looking forward to a great year!

This is my seventeenth year at Wheelersburg High School; prior to teaching at WHS, I taught 8th grade English in Norfolk, Virginia. Both of my parents graduated from Wheelersburg, so even though I grew up in Virginia Beach, I feel like I've always been a pirate at heart. Go Burg!

I am also one of the Key Club advisors. If you are interested in joining Key Club, check out the website https://www.keyclub.org/ to learn more about this organization. Please email me with questions about how to get involved! We will have sign-ups to join and collect dues the first couple of weeks of school.

All assignments will be posted on Google Classroom. In addition, I use Remind.com to send messages.

If you have any questions regarding assignments or the class, feel free to email me:  [email protected]

"When I look back, I am so impressed again with the life-giving power of literature.  If I were a young person today, trying to gain a sense of myself in the world,  I would do that again by reading, just as I did when I was young." ~Maya Angelou

“There’s only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.” ~Aldous Huxley
