Teacher Spotlight
Name:  Mrs. Schimdt

1. What does true leadership mean to you?

To me, leadership means being able to engage, motivate, and inspire. It means being able to follow through on tasks. It means working to help others be better. An effective leader has to possess good communication skills, be able to direct others, and take ownership of what they do.

2. What is your favorite thing about teaching at Wheelersburg Schools?

My favorite thing about teaching at Wheelersburg Schools is the students. They are "my" kids. I love the family atmosphere that is created here. I couldn't imagine teaching anywhere else.

3. Why did you want to become a teacher?

One of my first jobs was being a secretary at a government-funded preschool. When one of the teachers or one of the aides was absent, they would send me in to replace them and work with the kids. I found out quickly that I liked that better than doing office work, so I went back to college and got my teaching degree to become a teacher. Here I am 35 years later!!

4. How do you highlight academic achievement in your classroom?

One way I highlight academic achievement in my classroom with praise. I make sure my students know when they have done something well. I also highlight academic achievement by displaying excellent work around my classroom. Another way I highlight academic achievement is to send "Posigrams" home to students' parents. I think it is important to let parents know when their child has excelled or done something well.
